•At the request of Naval Sea Systems
Command, the NRC established a subcommittee of the Committee on Toxicology in 2003 to review the
toxicology and epidemiology of 19 materials considered submarine air contaminants, and to develop emergency
and continuous exposure guidelines for each. Pre-publication of the first volume of findings is now released;
final publication is expected in April 2005.
•Watson is a member of the subcommittee
examining the data for each contaminant, and is also a co-author of chapters in Vol 1; Vol 2 is in
progress and will be completed in 2005
