New Environmental and Life Sciences Laboratory Groundbreaking
(October 1999)
Groundbreaking ceremonies were conducted on October 20, 1999, for a new $2.7
million Environmental and Life Sciences Laboratory. This ten-laboratory facility
will be used to conduct state-of-the-art research in molecular biology in support
of the functional genomics research conducted at ORNL. The facility will be
co-located to a new $13.4 million animal facility that is planned for construction
in FY 2001. DOE Office of Science Director Martha Krebs and former Congresswoman
Marilyn Lloyd, along with ORNL Director Al Trivelpiece, participated in the
