JIBS and UT Host Successful Colloguium (May 1999)

The Joint Institute for Biological Sciences (JIBS), along with the UT/ORNL Graduate Program for Genome Science and Technology, hosted a one-day Colloquium on May 27, 1999. The purpose of this event was to highlight current research at UT and ORNL in microbial and mammalian genetics, structural biology, computational biology and associated analytical technologies. Additionally, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows had the opportunity to display their research through a concurrent poster session. The Colloquium had about 150 participants in roughly equal numbers from UT and ORNL, and had participants from Vanderbilt University Medical School, UT Memphis, Meharry Medical College, East Tennessee State University, UT Medical Center, and Carson-Newman. It is hoped that this and future events like this will catalyze new research collaborations between these institutions. (Contact: Barry Berven, 576-2083 or baz@ornl.gov)
