ORNL Nominated as Subcontractor of the Month by Portsmouth (March 1999)

ORNL has been nominated as Subcontractor of the Month at Portsmouth for work performed under the management of Frank Gardner of the Life Sciences Division’s Environmental Technology Section (Grand Junction Office). This work group, consisting of ORNL workers, support subcontractors, Portsmouth site staff, DOE Site Office staff, and USEC support staff, is responsible for the planning and execution of three Environmental Restoration pilot projects involving injection of oxidants into the upper groundwater aquifer to achieve chemical reduction of solvents. The project involves significant technical and scientific expertise in an environment not fully characterized.. The group performed flawlessly from a safety point of view with over 5400 hours of field related work accomplished there without incident, and with positive technical results coming from the demonstrations.
