Patent Disclosure Filed for Neural Activity Measurement Technique (June 1998) Dr. Daniel W. McPherson, a senior research staff member in the Nuclear Medicine Group of the Assessment Technology Section, has filed a patent disclosure for a novel method to measure neural activity especially associated with brain receptors and dementia progression. The disclosure is titled "In vivo Method for Determination of Muscarinic Ligand Subtype Sensitivity" and is based on work accomplished by Dr. McPherson to develop ligands that will attach to cholinergic receptors and facilitate measurement of neural activity using standard medical imaging methods. This work is being applied to detecting the progression of dementias such as Alzheimer's in humans.Contact: D. W. McPherson, 576-6707 or phm@ornl.gov Funding Source: DOE-OBER |
