Southeast Region Federal Laboratory Consortium
Excellence in Technology Transfer Awards for 2001 (January 2002)
The Southeast Region Federal Laboratory Consortium (SE-FLC) has announced
the 2001 award winners for Excellence in Technology Transfer. The Southeast
Region consists of 40 Federal Laboratories located in the following 9
states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North
Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Three nominations from ORNL were
chosen for this year's Excellence in Technology Transfer category. For
ORNL, this is most significant when it was announced that only five awards
will be presented, and of those five awards ORNL is the only laboratory
in the region with multiple winners. Excellence in Technology Transfer
Awards recognize outstanding efforts and results in commercializing
laboratory generated technologies. Two awards from the Life Sciences Division
were recognized. Ying Xu and Dong Xu, members of the Protein Informatics
Group, were recognized for PROSPECT (Protein Structure Prediction
and Evaluation Computer Toolkit) (also recently winner of a 2001
R&D 100 Award). Mitch Doktycz, senior staff member in the Functional
Genomics Group, was recognized for Hybrid Valve Technology for Liquid
Handling and Dual-Manifold System for Arraying Biomolecules. The
awards were presented at the SE-FLC regional meeting at the Sheraton World
hotel in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday, January 15, 2002.
